We recently covered the different ways to bond with your dog. But few are as simple as this method researchers have found is a surefire way to connect with your pooch. And all we have to do is exchange eye contact with our dogs. DoggieLawn Explores: Gazing At Your Dog

Studies conclude that when eye contact is exchanged, oxytocin – the chemical that encourages bonding – is released in both humans and dogs. The study was conducted by animal behaviorist Takefumi Kikusui, who is based at Azabu University in Japan.

The results indicated that thirty minutes of staring was enough to boost the release of oxytocin, according to CBS. It also made female pooches more inclined to “gaze” at their owners.

According to Medical Daily, however, the study also saw oxytocin levels boost after just five minutes of staring.

As many dog owners already suspect, the results also suggest there could be a parental connection between humans and their dogs.

“We agree that there is a possible that dogs cleverly and unknowingly utilize a natural system meant for bonding a parent with his or her child,” Takefumi said.
