When you think about visiting San Diego, spending time with your dog may not be the first thing to come to mind. Surfing, beautiful sunsets, and even the famous Gaslamp Quarter may be the San Diego you've seen on TV, and heard your friends talking about. However, if you happen to be a dog lover who can't imagine taking a trip without your best buddy, San Diego is the perfect place for you! Whether you and your pal favor dog parks, playing Frisbee on the beach, or having a snack together, America's Finest City is replete with activities and pet friendly places catering to you both.
The Original Dog Beach
While Ocean Beach is famous for its surfing and small-town charm, it is also home to one of the first leash-free beaches in the United States. In fact, the Ocean Beach Town Council's Dog Beach Committee is committed to improving, maintaining, and preserving Dog Beach for future generations. It is here where dogs run freely (so no need for a DoggieLawn here!) in the ocean on any given day, and truly understand the appeal of the Southern California lifestyle

Yes, we said it! The guys at the Coronado Surfing Academy will teach your dog to "Hang 20" with a private surfing lesson for you and your pooch! Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve
For those who enjoy hiking the rugged, scenic trails of the west, Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve is among the most panoramic. Consisting of a seven mile loop trail featuring a waterfall, this hike is appropriate for all skill levels, including that of your leashed pet. Hiking this breathtaking preserve is a great way for you and your pal to take a step off the beaten path, and get your exercise as you explore the wilderness.
Nate's Point Off-Leash Dog Park
Anyone who has taken the time to explore Balboa Park knows of the beauty and culture it offers. Complete with museums, The Old Globe Theater, and botanical gardens, Balboa Park appeals to a variety of interests. Of course, dog lovers have not been forgotten! Located on the West Mesa of Balboa Park sits Nate's Point Off-Leash Dog Park, a 2.3 acre haven for pups. As one of the most popular dog parks in San Diego since 1996, it offers amenities such as a drinking fountain, picnic tables, and is completely fenced for optimal convenience.

The Regal Beagle
After a day full of adventure, you and Fido are sure to be ready to sit and have a drink. True to its name, the Regal Beagle is a pet friendly bar and grill, featuring a constantly rotating selection of craft beers. While you sit on the patio and enjoy your beverage, the bartenders will happily fill your copilot's doggy dish with fresh water.
After a full day of romping around the city, you and your pup will be exhausted. Why not rest those tired feet (and paws) at the chic Palomar. Part of the Kimpton chain of boutique hotels, their pet friendly hotel has all the accoutrements to make your furry little guy feel right at home. Although they don’t offer a convenient indoor dog potty, like a DoggieLawn, they do have amenities like food, water bowls and dog beds. To make sure you can sleep in the next day though, we recommend you have a DoggieLawn shipped to the hotel!
As you can see, San Diego is an incredible city, filled with dog friendly activities to do for you and your best friend. Whether you prefer the tranquility of a Frisbee game on the beach, the thrill of a rustic hike, or enjoying a drink together while watching the sun set, this beautiful town wouldn't be the same without your pal. Pack up the squeaky toys, get your swimsuits ready, and treat your pup to the vacation of a lifetime.
