Meet the breed: shiba inus

At DoggieLawn, we want to make every aspect of being a pet owner easier – even the process of becoming one! Between the hundreds of dog breeds that exist today, it can often be difficult to know which is right for you or your family. Each breed has their own unique characteristics, idiosyncrasies, and tendencies. Choosing the right one for your situation can be the difference between having a new best friend and having a new constant battle. But with a little information, you can choose a breed that perfectly fits what you're looking for – and if you're looking for a small, spirited dog with a big personality, the Shiba Inu breed is a great candidate. Learn more information about Shiba Inus below.

All About Shibas

Shiba Inus may be small and athletic, but the Shiba Inu personality is big and eccentric. They're great for apartments, as they only grow to around 20 pounds and don't need too much space in the home, but they were originally bred as hunting dogs and need daily exercise as a result. Shiba Inus are the smallest of 6 native breeds from Japan, and were originally bred to help in hunting wild birds and boars. As such, Shibas love the chase, need a good deal of exercise, and make good running partners.

Shibas are interesting, highly agile, athletic, and very intelligent. They make good companion dogs and are quite loyal to their owners and family. The Shiba Inu temperament is independent and strong-willed, which can make training them difficult. They're also prone to dog aggression and possessiveness, so working with a trainer who understands the Shiba breed is generally a good idea. You'll want to start socializing your Shiba to other dogs and people early on, as this is the best way to prevent the fiery nature of the breed.Wow

Overall, Shibas make great dogs for apartment dwellers and those who want an intelligent, interesting companion. While they're freethinking personality can be a little much, here at DoggieLawn, we think Shibas are one of the best breeds around.
